Hands-on TCM care
Tuina is a traditional hands-on approach that may include pressing, rolling, kneading, stretching and guided movement. Technique and pressure should be adapted to the individual rather than applied as a fixed routine.
What to expect
- A discussion about the area of concern and recent injuries or medical care.
- Assessment of comfort and movement where appropriate.
- Clear explanation before stronger pressure or assisted movement is used.
- Ongoing communication so the practitioner can reduce or stop any uncomfortable technique.
Tell the practitioner first
Share information about recent surgery, fractures, osteoporosis, blood-thinning medicine, pregnancy, skin infection, fever, severe swelling, numbness, unexplained weakness or acute injury. Some situations require conventional assessment before manual therapy.
Combining services
Tuina may be discussed on its own or alongside consultation, acupuncture or other services. The combination, timing and frequency should be explained rather than assumed.
