Moxibustion cones providing controlled warmth

A traditional warming method

Moxibustion uses prepared mugwort to provide controlled warmth near selected areas or points. The specific method can vary, and suitability should be considered before treatment.

What to discuss first

  • Reduced sensation, neuropathy or difficulty detecting heat.
  • Pregnancy, fever, acute inflammation or broken skin.
  • Respiratory sensitivity, asthma or concern about smoke.
  • Previous burns, allergic reactions or discomfort with heat.

During the session

Heat should remain tolerable. Tell the practitioner immediately if it feels too hot, painful, irritating or causes breathing discomfort. Skin should be checked and appropriate spacing and supervision maintained.

Burn prevention is essentialMoxibustion should not be left unsupervised or used as a home treatment without appropriate professional guidance.

Individual use

In TCM practice, moxibustion may be discussed as part of a broader care plan. This page explains the service but does not claim that it cures a particular disease or produces a fixed result.
