What acupuncture involves
Acupuncture uses fine needles placed at selected points. At Shande TCM, acupuncture may be considered after discussion and assessment, either on its own or alongside another appropriate service.
Before the session
- Eat a light meal and stay hydrated unless a healthcare professional has advised otherwise.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
- Tell the practitioner if you are pregnant, use blood-thinning medicine, have a bleeding condition, faint easily, have an implanted device or are receiving cancer treatment.
- Share any fear of needles or previous reaction.
During and after
Sensations vary and may include pressure, heaviness, tingling or a brief ache. Tell the practitioner immediately if you feel unwell or uncomfortable. After the session, follow the individual advice provided and avoid making assumptions about a guaranteed result.
Appropriate expectations
People commonly enquire about acupuncture in relation to discomfort, tension, mobility and general wellbeing. Suitability and the care plan depend on the individual; the website does not diagnose or promise outcomes.
